RTS Scholars Can Change the World
Tyler, a recent UCLA graduate and RTS Scholar, is working this summer as a policy intern with the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).
Over the past few weeks, Tyler has been working on research projects aligned with his internship work. He recently completed a policy brief for the CCAI. Tyler’s brief outlines the service barriers faced by LGBTQI+ youth. These youth are drastically overrepresented in foster care.
Tyler makes recommendations aimed at improving LGBTQI+ experiences in foster care placement. The brief recommends broad changes in practices and policy. These policy changes would better address identity-based discrimination in foster care.
Tyler grew up in foster care, and dreamed of one day being able to help change the system for the better. With your support, Tyler has completed several legal internships. This real world experience helped prepare him for his future career. Not only that, his policy brief has the potential to change laws. These changes would improve the lives of thousands of children in foster care.
What’s next for Tyler? He’s gearing up for the LSAT and hopes to start law school next year.
Thank you for believing in college-going foster youth like Tyler! You are investing in the next generation of leaders and changemakers.
